What is Hyperpigmentation?

Melanin — your skin's natural pigment — is produced by specialized cells called melanocytes. Normally, this happens evenly and protects the skin from UV radiation. Not every ingredient advertised as "brightening" is effective. Here, the evidence is clear:

Ellagic Acid — Natural Tyrosinase Inhibitor
Ellagic acid, a polyphenol found in pomegranates, walnuts, and strawberries, inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase — the key component of melanin synthesis. Studies show that topical application measurably reduces pigmentation after 4–8 weeks, without irritating the skin. The advantage over chemical alternatives: no rebound pigmentation after discontinuation.

Vitamin C — The Classic with Justification
L-ascorbic acid in a stable form (10–20%) interrupts melanin synthesis at multiple levels: it inhibits tyrosinase, reduces oxidative stress, and converts already formed dark melanin into lighter melanin. Combining it with a mechanical exfoliation — such as a Kessa glove — significantly enhances absorption because the upper stratum corneum is removed.
