Nila Rice Scrub: The traditional body scrub for radiant, even skin

Mixed with Nila – the deep blue indigo powder from the Sahara – this created a paste that was applied to the entire body before weddings, holidays, and the weekly hammam visit. A ritual passed down from mother to daughter and still alive in the hammams of Morocco today.
The combination is no coincidence: ground rice acts as a gentle, mechanical scrub and removes dead skin cells, while cornstarch smoothly binds the paste and gives the skin a silky finish. Nila, meanwhile, provides its legendary complexion-refining effect – after application, the skin appears visibly brighter, more even, and more awake.
Why this combination works: Rice and cornstarch mechanically remove dead skin cells and impurities without irritating the skin. Nila simultaneously promotes an even, radiant complexion. The result: velvety soft, visibly brighter skin – completely without microplastics, completely without chemicals.
Ingredients
For one application (full body):
2 tablespoons finely ground rice (rice flour)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1–2 teaspoons EVARGANA Nila Powder
2–3 tablespoons rose water or a nourishing oil (e.g., argan oil), alternatively any other moisturizing oil
A glass or ceramic bowl and a wooden or plastic spoon – no metal, as metal reacts with the minerals
Step-by-Step Instructions
Mix dry ingredients: In the bowl, thoroughly combine rice flour, cornstarch, and Nila powder until a uniformly blue powder mixture with no light streaks is formed.
Prepare paste: Slowly stir in rose water or oil until a thick, spreadable paste is formed – not too watery; it should adhere to the skin.
Apply: Best after a warm shower or steam bath, when pores are open. Apply the paste generously to damp skin, starting from the body, avoiding the face.
Massage & exfoliate: Gently massage in circular motions – the fine rice grains provide the mechanical exfoliating action. Leave on for 5–10 minutes.
Rinse off: Rinse thoroughly with warm water, pat skin dry, and finish with a nourishing oil.
Nila may leave a slight blue tint on skin, towel, and bathtub upon first contact – this is normal and can be rinsed off completely. To be safe, use an older towel and test the mixture on a small skin area beforehand.
Application Tips
Frequency: Once a week for normal to oily skin, every 10–14 days for dry or sensitive skin
Dry skin: Use more oil instead of rose water and moisturize generously after rinsing
Sensitive skin: Reduce application time to 3–5 minutes and apply less pressure when massaging
Before special occasions: Ideal the evening before an event for instantly visibly brighter, more even skin
Storage: Do not store mixed paste – prepare fresh for each application
