Miswak – Natural
Dental Care with Tradition
For centuries, miswak has been used in many cultures as a natural alternative to the toothbrush. What can it really do – and why is it making a comeback today?
What is Miswak?
Miswak is a twig or a root, usually from the so-called "toothbrush tree" (Salvadora persica). Chewing on the woody end creates a fibrous tip that functions like a natural toothbrush – without toothpaste, plastic, or electricity.
Especially in the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Asia, this practice is deeply rooted in daily life – and is now gaining more and more followers in Europe too.

Step-by-Step Application
-
1
Gently expose the end of the miswak with a knife or your teeth until the fibers are visible.
-
2
Moisten the fibrous tip briefly with water – this activates the active ingredients and makes the application more pleasant.
-
3
Clean the teeth and gums with gentle, circular motions – similar to using a toothbrush.
-
4
Cut off or renew the used tip every few days to maintain a fresh cleaning surface.
In Islam, the miswak is considered a recommended practice of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and is advised before prayer. Many see miswak not just as a hygiene product, but as a spiritual ritual – a connection between physical care and inner consciousness.
Miswak is more than a trend. It is a symbol of conscious, natural, and sustainable dental care – with cultural depth and proven effectiveness.
Hand-cut, with and without walnut bark – directly from traditional harvest in Morocco.
