Men's Body Care — Why Moroccan Natural Cosmetics are Perfect for Him

Moroccan men have been exfoliating for centuries. It's time that caught on.

What Men's Skin Truly Needs

On average, male skin produces 15–20% more sebum than female skin – that's biology, not a flaw. More sebum means more shine, more clogged pores, more ingrown hairs after shaving, and a thicker stratum corneum that builds up faster. Conventional shower gels don't address this. They cleanse superficially, irritate the skin with sulfates and perfume, and leave the actual problem – dead skin cells, hardened areas, dull skin – untouched.

This is precisely where Moroccan body care comes in. No frills, no 12-step routine. Three products, a clear process, results you'll see after the first application.

Why Natural Men's Body Care Works: Moroccan products like the Kessa glove, Beldi soap, and Ghassoul are designed for exactly what men's skin struggles with daily – excess sebum, dead stratum corneum, and irritated shaving areas. Without silicones, without mineral oil, without fillers.

The Hammam: The Oldest Men's Ritual in the World

In the traditional Moroccan Hammam, men and women go separately — but both go. This is not a minor detail. It shows that body care in North African culture was never considered a feminine pursuit. The weekly visit to the steam bath was as natural for men as Friday prayers: a combination of cleansing, relaxation, and a social ritual.

The process has been identical for centuries: first, heat and steam to open the pores. Then, apply Beldi soap — a black paste made from fermented olive oil — to the damp body and let it sit. Afterwards, use the Kessa glove: vigorous, circular movements until dead skin rolls off. Finally, Ghassoul, a volcanic clay from the Middle Atlas that binds excess sebum and mineralizes the skin.

The result: skin that feels like new. Not because a product covers it, but because everything that made it dull and sluggish has been removed.

If you don't have a hammam nearby, you can achieve the same effect at home with a hot shower (5–8 minutes) before using the Kessa glove. The heat opens the pores just as effectively.

Kessa Glove — Why It Works Particularly Well for Men

The EVARGANA Kessa glove is woven from traditional Kessa fabric — a fabric with a defined grain that exfoliates mechanically without scratching. For men's skin, which is thicker and richer in sebum than women's skin, this offers a specific advantage: you don't need chemicals for deep cleansing. The glove does it purely mechanically.

The Kessa is particularly effective on areas that men often neglect: elbows, heels, neck, shoulders. These are areas where calluses build up particularly quickly — and where conventional shower gels have little effect.

Another point that often surprises men: the problem of ingrown hairs after shaving — on the face, neck, and chest — is significantly reduced after regular exfoliation. Dead skin is the main reason hairs grow inward. If you consistently remove it, hairs grow out more cleanly.

Natural Men's Body Care — The Kessa Difference: Unlike chemical peels or plastic loofah sponges, the Kessa glove works with the skin, not against it. No microplastic particles, no acids, no irritation. Just friction, water, and the result speaks for itself.

Beldi Soap: The Most Honest Cleansing You Know

Beldi soap essentially consists of two ingredients: fermented black olive oil and water. No foaming agents, no synthetic fragrances, no preservative compounds that remain on the skin. This explains its consistency — a soft, almost liquid black paste — and its scent: earthy, slightly smoky, very clean.

For men's skin, Beldi soap is interesting for a specific reason: its high content of oleuropein and natural polyphenols from fermented olives acts as an antioxidant. In practice, this means the skin is cleansed without drying out. Anyone who experiences skin tightness or dryness after showering will notice that this doesn't happen with Beldi soap.

Application: Apply a small amount (hazelnut-sized) to damp skin, massage in, and let sit for 2–3 minutes. The soap dissolves sebum residues and simultaneously loosens the stratum corneum, making the subsequent exfoliation with the Kessa glove even more effective.

Beldi soap also works as a pre-shave treatment. Apply to a damp beard, let it sit briefly, then shave. The skin is softer, the blade glides better, and razor burn becomes less frequent.

Ghassoul Instead of Shaving Foam — An Underestimated Switch

Ghassoul is a volcanic clay from the Middle Atlas of Morocco, used in Hammams since the 12th century. Its special feature is an exceptionally high cation exchange capacity — simply put: it binds sebum, dirt, and residues through electrical charge differences without stripping the skin.

For men, Ghassoul has two specific uses:

  • As a body mask: Mix with water to form a paste, apply to chest, back, or shoulders, leave on for 5 minutes, rinse off. The skin appears more matte and less shiny afterwards — ideal for men with oily-combination body skin.
  • As a shaving preparation: Use Ghassoul paste instead of shaving foam. It mechanically protects the skin without softening the beard as conventional foams do — the result is a more precise shave with less irritation.

Anyone who regularly suffers from back acne or chest blemishes — a common male problem due to sweating under clothes — should use Ghassoul as a body mask once a week. After 3–4 weeks, a clear difference will be visible.

The Complete Men's Routine in 4 Steps

You don't need a complicated routine. This process takes 15 minutes and works once a week as intensive care — or two to three times a week if you get used to it and like it.

  1. Warm-up (5–8 min hot shower or steam bath)
Let hot water run over your body until your skin is reddened and your pores are open. This is the key step — without pre-warming, the exfoliation is only half as effective.
  2. Apply Beldi soap and let it sit (3 min.)
Apply a hazelnut-sized amount of Beldi soap to damp skin. Do not rinse. The paste dissolves sebum and prepares the stratum corneum for exfoliation.
  3. Exfoliate with the Kessa glove (5–7 min.)
Put on the Kessa glove, make circular movements all over the body. Start with your arms, then legs, back (as far as you can reach), chest. Treat elbows, knees, and heels extra long. The dead skin visibly comes off — this is normal and desired.
  4. Ghassoul finish (optional, 5 min.)
For particularly oily areas or as a weekly deep cleanse: mix Ghassoul with lukewarm water to a paste, apply, let dry briefly, rinse off. No shower gel needed afterwards — the skin is clean.
How often? Once a week is ideal for the complete routine. You should never exfoliate with the Kessa glove more than two to three times a week — men's skin may be tougher, but it still needs time to regenerate and build up the new cell layer.

3 Myths About Men's Cosmetics You Can Forget

Myth 1: "Men don't need body care."

This is true in that men's skin is indeed tougher and somewhat more resilient. But "resilient" doesn't mean "self-cleaning." The stratum corneum actually builds up faster in men than in women. If you don't do anything about it, you'll notice dull, sallow skin, ingrown hairs, and a texture that just looks old. It's not about vanity — it's about your skin functioning as it should.

Myth 2: "Natural products are too gentle for my skin."

The Kessa glove is anything but gentle — it's a mechanical tool that physically removes dead skin. Beldi soap with fermented olive oil has a significantly lower saponification value than industrial soaps, thus cleansing deeper. Ghassoul binds sebum at a molecular level. These products work — they just don't look like it.

Myth 3: "This is complicated."

Three products. A fixed routine. Once a week. That's less complex than most men's shaving systems with five blades, pre-shave oil, aftershave balm, and facial toner. Moroccan body care is radically simple at its core — and that's precisely what makes it so suitable for men.

Can I also use the Kessa glove on my face?

We do not recommend the Kessa glove for the face — the fabric is designed for thicker body skin. Facial skin, especially on the cheeks and forehead, reacts more sensitively to mechanical exfoliation. For the face, Ghassoul works well as a gentle mask or Tebrima exfoliating powder, which is specifically formulated for more sensitive skin areas.

How long does a Kessa glove last?

With weekly use and careful care, a Kessa glove lasts 6–12 months. After each use, rinse thoroughly and hang to dry — never store folded in a damp bathroom. If the fabric starts to disintegrate or its effectiveness noticeably decreases, it's time for a new one.

Is this care also suitable for sensitive or dry men's skin?

Yes — with an adjustment. For dry or sensitive skin, use the Kessa glove only once a week (no more frequently) and apply less pressure. Beldi soap is also suitable for dry skin due to its natural oil content. Omit Ghassoul after exfoliating and instead apply a natural body oil (argan, almond) after showering — this fully compensates for moisture loss.
