Summer heat and skin care: What your skin needs now
The hot months are a welcome change for many – sunshine, relaxation, and vacation are in the air. But for our skin, summer means one thing above all: stress. UV radiation, heat, sweat, and dryness throw it off balance. Proper care is all the more important now.
Heat: What happens to your skin?
The skin is our largest organ and plays a crucial role in body temperature regulation. In hot weather, the pores open, and the sweat glands work at full speed. This causes sweat to evaporate from the skin's surface and provide cooling. But this body's own air conditioning system also has side effects:
- Drying of the skin : Due to the constant loss of moisture, the skin becomes dry, tight and irritated.
- Increased sebum production : In combination with sweat, this can clog pores and promote impurities.
- Heat eczema & irritations : Sensitive skin in particular reacts to constant friction and moisture with redness, itching or even rash.
Recognizing heat-related skin problems
- Heat pimples (miliaria) : Small, red blisters caused by blocked sweat glands
- Sun allergy : reaction to UV radiation with itching, redness or rash
- Heat urticaria : hives or nettle rash caused by sweat and heat
- Pigment spots : UV radiation promotes dark discoloration
What really helps? Our skincare tips for hot days:
1. Clean – but gently
Wash your skin morning and night with a mild, non-drying cleanser. Lukewarm water is ideal. Water that's too hot will dehydrate.
2. Light care instead of greasy creams
Opt for fast-absorbing, moisturizing products. Aloe vera, rose hydrosol, or argan oil are true summer heroes.
3. Sun protection is mandatory!
Choose at least SPF 30, preferably 50. Even in the shade or on cloudy days, UV radiation can damage your skin.
4. Drink enough
Water is essential for your skin. 2-3 liters per day helps your body regulate its temperature and nourishes your skin from within.
5. Natural after-sun rituals
Soothing masks, cold compresses, or applying Aker Fassi or argan oil can help regenerate stressed skin.
Particularly sensitive: children's skin & reactive skin types
Protection is especially important for children, the elderly, or people with atopic dermatitis, rosacea, or psoriasis. Here, the following applies: Apply sunscreen early, avoid direct sun, and wear breathable clothing.
Our conclusion for your summer glow:
Heat doesn't have to be a skin problem. With the right care, adequate protection, and self-care, you can keep your summer skin healthy and radiant.
